Ranbir Kumar,a city-based singer and music composer,lives,breathes and sleeps ghazals. “It’s my soul food,” he says. At 28,he has come out with a new album—Mitran Da Mood. “I was looking for someone to sing. My friend,Mandeep,who penned the lyrics,suggested Meet Malkit”. The album,now on the stands,is a “mix of folk,sufi and traditional”. Kumar,who reveres Jagjit Singh,is working on a ghazal album,Shaam Dhale to be out by 2011.

Merit list
North South Foundation is offering merit-cum- need based scholarships to students. A US based,21- year-old,non-profit voluntary organisation,the foundation will award 4,500 scholarships to exceptionally qualified underprivileged students entering colleges in India. Dr Ratnam Chitturi,president of the foundation,said,“Meera Sharma,an Associate Professor at GGDSD College,Sector 32,has been nominated to act as the coordinator.” Scholarship is open to those among the top 90 to 95 per cent in the qualifying exams with an annual family income of less than Rs 50,000. Applicants should send a self-addressed and stamped envelope with rank card of CET/JEE and marks sheet of intermediate or equivalent examination held this year to the Chapter Coordinator at # 9,Sector 17 E,Chandigarh. LAVA Mobile has incorporated the Rupee symbol on the keypad of its latest model Lava B5. B5 also has Alpha keypad with keys arranged in ABCD order. “We wanted Indians to use thesymbol,” said SN Rai,co founder and director,Lava Mobile.
