Junior engineer ‘caught while accepting bribe’ of Rs 30,000
The accused has been identified as Sukhwinder Singh. According to sources, the accused JE was demanding money in connection with some meter load adjustment.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a junior engineer (JE) of the electricity department in Manimajra for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
The accused has been identified as Sukhwinder Singh. According to sources, the accused JE was demanding money in connection with some meter load adjustment.
The complainant had approached the CBI alleging that Sukhwinder had been threatening action against the electrical meter at his residence. To avoid any punitive measures, the JE allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000. However, after negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs 30,000. The JE then called the complainant to his office in Manimajra on Monday evening to hand over the money.
Acting swiftly, the CBI reportedly laid a trap inside the electricity department office. As soon as the complainant handed over Rs 30,000 to the engineer, the CBI officials caught him red-handed. The agency also registered a case against the JE on charges of corruption.
This is not the first instance of a CBI crackdown in Manimajra. In November last year, a CBI team of Chandigarh had arrested a station fire officer (SFO) and another fireman posted at Manimajra fire station for allegedly accepting bribe.
The accused fire officials, Dasheru Singh (SFO) and Kamleshwar (fireman), were taken into custody by the CBI. As per sources, a complaint was received by the CBI that the accused had been demanding Rs 1 lakh for granting NOC (no-objection certificate) from the complainant, and the deal was finalised for Rs 80,000.
