Vande Bharat Sleeper trains cost, Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Coach Cost Explained: Indian Railways is preparing to introduce the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train on the Howrah-Guwahati route. The semi-high-speed train service will be operated and maintained by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone. Built by BEML using ICF technology, the orange-and-grey coloured train is designed to achieve a top speed of 180 kmph.

Vande Bharat Sleeper train production

The Ministry of Railways has ramped up the production of Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, with nearly 200 Vande Bharat trains currently at various stages of manufacturing. In 2026, the national transporter plans to introduce 12 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, with six rakes deployed on each side.

Cost of Vande Bharat Sleeper train coach

As the much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper train is set to hit the tracks this month, many people are curious to know how much a single Vande Bharat Sleeper train coach actually costs. 

The cost of a single coach of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is estimated at around Rs 8 to Rs 8.5 crore. Briefing reporters on Thursday, the Railway Minister said that this is lower than the cost of metro coaches, which usually range between Rs 10 and Rs 10.5 crore. These coach has been developed by BEML using ICF (Integral Coach Factory) technology. BEML will manufacture a total of 10 rakes of 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper trains.
