In high spirits

Strange things are happening at Ravi Malhotra’s residence, and his wife is inconsolable.

With a couple of films in his kitty, and a busy schedule, things are looking up for actor Sachin Khedekar

Strange things are happening at Ravi Malhotra’s residence, and his wife is inconsolable. “She feels some thing’s in the house, and she can’t explain for it’s outside the realm of human understanding, and so,we call in the exorcists,” actor Sachin Khedekar warms up to his character as Mr Malhotra in his forthcoming film,Rokkk. A suspense thriller which deals with the paranormal,Rokkk stars Tanushree Dutta as Ravi’s wife,Preeti Sharma as his sister,Udita Goswami as his sister-in-law and Shaad Randhawa as Udita’s boyfriend.

From days of Imtihan on television to playing a typical Indian husband to perfection in Mahesh Manjrekar’s Astitva, and the upright Subash Chandra Bose in Shyam Benegal’s Bose,Sachin has come a long way. He was recently seen as Home Minister Shivshanakar in Shadow and is now looking forward to films like Rang Rasiya,Jaan Ki Baaji,Jor Laga ke Haiyya and Ek – Power of One. “See,I’m pretty busy,” he laughs, but before films,it’s his love for theatre that’s very much alive. “Acting has become his second nature to me as I’ve been performing on stage since childhood in Marathi and Hindi theatres and hardly need any retake while shooting for films!” he says.

Currently busy with Rokkk, ask him whether he believes in spirits, and he says he’s not superstitions. “But we did have a strange experience on the sets. Everything was arranged,Rangoli and all,for today’s shooting and director and producer left yesterday after everything was properly locked. But when we arrived today everything was ransacked!” he’s in a bit of a shock.

For Sachin, acting is something that improves with practice. “The more you work, the more you learn. I am a Marathi and I learnt Hindi the hard way and am still learning. I read Hindi newspapers loudly so that I can deliver my dialogues effectively,” he tells us. While he started with the small screen, the actor’s working towards making a presence on the silver screen. So what’s the difference? “Well, you look smaller on the TV while big on the cinema! People forget you once the serial becomes old, while the movie experience remains forever.”

The moment he feels he’s being typecast or work’s got monotnous,Sachin runs back to theatre for a new shot of energy. “I always want to do roles with a difference. For example my upcoming film is Ek Thi Raani, which is based on the life of Vijaya Raje Scindia and I am doing the role of Sardar Angre. Another film Ravan by Mani Ratnam has me playing a government officer….so I focus on variety.” It surely is the spice of life!
