Siblings die in accident
Ambala:
Two brothers were killed and three persons injured,when a trailer loaded with bricks overturned near Naggal village on Hissar road. Vijay (35) and Ajay (32),who worked at a brick kiln,were going to purchase medicines when the trailer overturned and the brothers were buried under the bricks. Three labourers sitting in the trailer were injured seriously. They all were migrants from Bihar. Meanwhile,two unidentified bodies were recovered from near the Ambala Cantonment station by the GRP.

Seminar on liver diseases held
Chandigarh:
The PGI-AIIMS joint conference on “Current Perspectives in Liver Disease (CPLD)-2009” began at PGI today with emphasis on the latest treatments and liver transplants. PGI director Prof K K Talwar inaugurated the conference and Prof B K Tandon,a senior gastroenterologist,was the chief guest. Prof Talwar urged the Department of Hepatology to initiate liver transplant programme at the institute.

PNB offers facilities for corporate houses
CHANDIGARH :
The mid-corporate branch of Punjab National Bank,Sector 17,was converted into a large corporate branch at a function today. The branch aims at facilitating smooth banking for corporate houses operating with a budget of Rs 25 crore and above,D K Singla,director of the bank,said,“With ever-expanding markets,companies are getting opportunities to expand. They can avail such opportunities only if reliable and bigger sources of finance are easily available.”

SBI launches mobile banking
CHANDIGARH :
The State Bank of India launched its mobile banking service for its non-rural branch —SBI Freedom— today. S K Sehgal,chief general manager,SBI,Chandigarh Circle,said with this launch,the customer will be able to avail most frequently used facilities like balance enquiry,mini statement,funds transfer,issue of cheque books,mobile recharge and bill payment. Initially,the facility will available only at Java-enabled mobile phones over SMS/GPRS/WAP and non-Java mobile phones with GPRS connection. The service can be availed over the free GPRS facilities offered by various mobile service providers. The services for other mobile phones are under development.

Haryana Vigyan Ratna Award for Dr Kohli
CHANDIGARH:
Prof R K Kohli,Chairman,Botany Department,Panjab University,has been bestowed with the Haryana Vigyan Ratna Award for the year 2008-09 for his contributions in the field of science. The state government will honour him with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh,a citation and trophy at a function. He is the first recipient of the award instituted by Haryana to recognise and encourage scientists. Kohli,a senior ecologist,is also the recipient of Punjab Ratna Award 2008.

CITCO union elects new head
Chandigarh:
Kashmir Chand was today unanimously elected chairman-cum-president of the CITCO Workers Union. An emergency meeting of the office bearers and executive members of the union was held today,during which it was stated that after the promotion of the current president as manager,the post of president had been vacated. Kashmir Singh was then elected for a period of two years.
