CHANDIGARH:
A free eye check-up and surgery camp was organised by the Grewal Eye Institute at Chuhur Majra village near Landran in Mohali on Sunday. The camp,held between 10 am and 2 pm,witnessed over 120 patients. Speaking about the initiative,Dr S P S Grewal,CEO,Grewal Eye Institute,said,“At Grewal Eye Institute,we are always looking for an opportunity to do our bit for the society. Regular camps are a part of our ongoing social responsibility efforts.”

Baha’is executed in Iran remembered in city
Chandigarh:
Members of the Baha’i community organised a plantation drive at the Baha’i Gulistan at the Baha’i cemetery in Sector 25 on Sunday. Hundreds of roses were planted in the memory of the Baha’is who were executed in Iran in the recent years. Delegates from Chandigarh,Punjab,Haryana,Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir descended on the city to express concern over human rights violation of Baha’is in Iran.

Vehicle lifters’ gang busted; two held with stolen car,MOHALI: With the arrest of two persons on Sunday,the district police claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle lifters. While Babu Ram of Bihal in Himachal Pradesh and Pawan Kumar of Pehowa in Kurukshetra were arrested,their accomplice Rishi of Haryana managed to escape. A Tata Indigo car was recovered from the duo. The police caught hold of the gangsters when they were planning to sell the car near Chapparchiri village. Preliminary police investigations revealed that the gang used to steal vehicles from different parts of Haryana and sell them in Punjab. A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC has been lodged and the arrested have been subjected to sustained interrogation for ascertaining their modus operandi and to nail their other accomplices.

35-year-old woman attempts suicide
Chandigarh:
A 35-year-old woman of Maloya tried to kill herself by consuming a poisonous substance at her residence on Sunday. A mother of three,Veera,wrote a suicide note on her hand accusing her husband Rajpal of harassing her. She was rushed to the PGI,where her condition is stated to be critical,said the police. “We are investigating the case and will take action accordingly,” said Janak Rana,SHO,Sector-39 police station.

Lawerance celebrates silver jubilee
MOHALI:
Lawerance Public School celebrated its silver jubilee at a function held on the school campus in Phase VIII on Sunday. To make the function memorable,senior citizens of Mohali and Chandigarh were invited to grace the occasion. The programme began with Ganesh Vandana followed by the lighting of lamp by the Senior Citizens’ Association president.
