Being a celebrity suits Dance India Dance’s Rakhee Sharma
For the Dance India Dance family, she was the oye bubbly girl with the finest set of dimples and twinkling eyes. More than her moves,it was Rakhee Sharma’s infectious zest for life that made the judges and the audiences give her the green signal week after week till she was eliminated in April this year. “But not before making a celebrity out of me,” Rakhee’s in town and lovin’ it – be it signing autographs, posing for pictures, getting noticed, being fussed over, yup,it’s stuff dreams are made of. Last week, she was with the kids at Bapu Dham’s Kitab Ghar, today Rakhee made a visit to Sector 9’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Dance institute where she picked all the moves courtesy Vikas and Naresh, for her DID auditions.
“In fact,I was studying here at the Anupam Kher’s acting school too,” tells Rakhee, busy getting her stuff together for its ‘Mumbai Calling’. The dancing shoes are out. It’s time to act,Rakhee’s in active mode and is literally working out to chase the big Bollywood dream. “Now that DID is over,I can finally concentrate on my passion – acting and I’ve already started learning Hindi and hit the gym to lose weight,” says this UK-based RJ who was brought up on a drama diet of Hindi films and music. “There’s nothing like it. The colours, the vibrancy, the variety,Indian cinema is fun,” Rakhee adds how a lot of Asian-Brits still romance Bollywood, and so,there’s always a reason to come back to India. Then why not land for acting auditions in the first place? “Well,I still had to work on my diction…plus DID was something I did on an impulse. There are days when I say ‘how the hell did I get selected?’ Dancing is a passion. Nobody taught me,and I had no idea I’d reach this far,” it’s the wildest thing she’s ever done and she credits her success to her mentor on the show,Remo D’Souza. “I have a poor memory, and I’d forget the moves. Had Remo sir not been there,I wouldn’t have danced this far,” Rakhee feels she made it because of her ‘urban, street style of dance and attitude.’
Her Facebook profile has an album of mad pictures. It says she’s interested in men,and if we speak Indi,it would definitely be Anil Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah. “If someone can keep me glued to a film,it’s Naseer’s acting.” says Rakhee. Watch out Mr Shah, here comes the Balle Balle Express!
