Himachal minister Vikramaditya Singh set to tie knot on Sept 22

The wedding bells are set to ring again in the erstwhile princely estate of Bushahr with its titular king and Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vikramaditya Singh, 36, set to tie the knot at a private function in Chandigarh on September 22.

Vikramaditya, the son of six-time former chief minister Virbhadra Singh and state Congress president Pratibha Singh, will be marrying Amreen Kaur, an Assistant Professor at Panjab University. Amreen is the daughter daughter of Sardar Jotinder Singh Sekhon and Opinder Kaur, residents of Sector 2, Chandigarh — also the wedding venue.

The news came to fore after an invitation card for the wedding made it way to the social media, generating media frenzy.

While Vikramaditya declined to comment on the matter, his mother Pratibha Singh confirmed the development. “We want to keep this low profile. In fact, I will share the details with the media at an appropriate time,” Pratibha told the Indian Express.

This will be Vikramaditya’s second marriage. He earlier got married in 2019 to Sudarshana Singh Chundawat of the erstwhile princely estate of Amet in Rajasthan. In October 2022, Sudarshana filed a civil suit in an Udaipur court, accusing Vikramaditya and his family of harassment. Sources close to Vikramaditya’s family said that the civil suit was settled two months ago and the couple has legally separated.

Vikramaditya represents Shimla Rural in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha and holds the Public Works Department portfolio in the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu led cabinet.

A graduate of Delhi University’s Hansraj College, he had joined the youth wing of the Congress during his time there. He later completed his post-graduation in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.

In 2013, Vikramaditya began his association with the Himachal Pradesh Congress unit and was later elected president of the state youth Congress.

In 2017, he was elected from Shimla Rural for the first time. That year, in a first the state’s history, a father-son duo (Virbhadra and Vikramaditya) duo took the oath of office. After Virbhadra passed in July 2021, he was was symbolically anointed as the “Raja” of Bushahr, at a private ceremony at Padam Palace in Rampur.

In 2024, he had unsuccessfully contested the Loka Sabha elections from Mandi — then represented by his mother — against actor and BJP leader Kangana Ranaut.
