Field Marshal returns

Once known as Field Marshal,former minister Sat Mahajan has got the party’s command in Kangra after AICC general secretary Birender Singh set up four committees for each parliamentary seat. Mahajan had announced retirement from electoral politics in 2007 much before assembly elections were announced. His activism in the Congress despite age and ailing health may have more to do with his son Ajay Mahajan’s ‘shaky’ political career but Mahajan—earlier known as ‘Kangra stalward’ and ‘Field Marshal of Kangra’—is down but certainly not out.

Another son rises

After Anurag Thakur,BJP MP and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association president,becoming a BJP star,it’s now the turn of Union minister Virbhadra Singh’s son ‘Tikka’ Vikramditya Singh to hog the limelight. Singh junior has formed Himachal Pradesh Sports,Culture and Environment Association to climb the political ladder and capitalised on the half-a-century legacy of his father. Not an usual step as Singh junior is also a budding shooter of national repute. The only difference is that CM Prem Kumar also gives credit of Anurag’s entry to politics to Virbhadra Singh as during his chief ministerial term,Anurag had to fight the fiercest legal battles in high court and Supreme Court to stay as HPCA president.

Perfect Putt

Danish brewing company Carlsberg Group,which has a beer manufacturing unit in Himachal,has had to face disappointment this year .The company is associated with an annual golf tournament at Naldehra,where CM Prem Kumar Dhumal is always the chief guest. As Dhumal has been advised against travel by the doctors after treatment at AIIMS,the company choose to play it down,even though Dhumal deputed Social and Women Empowerment Minister Sarveen Chaudhry to substitute him. But for her,it was a blessing in disguise as among the golfers particpating in the event ,was also her husband,an army brigadier.
