With Life is safe if driving is safe as the theme,the 21st Road Safety Week by the Chandigarh Traffic Police was inaugurated on Friday at the Children Traffic Park in Sector 23.
The week is observed in the first week of January every year across the country to inculcate the culture of road safety among citizens.
A blood donation camp and painting competition by schoolchildren was also organised on the occasion. A team of doctors from PGI were present at the camp.
Home Secretary Ram Niwas was the chief guest on the occasion. A cultural show by students of DAV School,Sector 15,Chandigarh,and a puppet show by Shri Badri Nath enthralled the audience.
The Road Safety Week will end on January 7 before which a variety of activities have been lined up including painting competitions,blood donation camps,safety announcements on major lightpoints,an exhibition at Sector-17 Plaza,testing of road rules knowledge,screening of related movies/films,scooter rally of girls to promote wearing of helmets,discussion on road safety to be aired on All India Radio,road safety workshops for autorickshaw and cycle rickshaw drivers,first-aid workshop for PCR/police personnel,road safety seminar of traffic marshals and members of RWAs,workshops for CTU,PEPSU,Punjab and Haryana Roadways drivers with free medical/eye check up camps and driving workshops for taxi/school bus drivers.
