Harcharan Singh is first full-time SGPC chief secy

Singh, a former bank official, is Director (Corporate and Group Financial Advisor) at The Indian Express, where he has worked for over a decade.

The Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC) has appointed Harcharan Singh as its chief secretary.

The announcement came during the meeting of the SGPC interim committee at Anandpur Sahib on Tuesday. Singh has been appointed for three years on a contractual basis.

This is the first time that the SGPC will have a full-time chief secretary. Earlier, Manjit Singh Calcutta was honorary chief secretary during the presidency of Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra. Harcharan will be paid Rs 3 lakh a month according to the advertisement for the post.

Eight candidates appeared for the interview held last Thursday. Among them were Avtar Singh Narula from the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission and Gurmeet Singh from the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle.
