Garden showcasing different ecosystems unveiled

Valley of Animals,Sector 49,was inaugurated on Monday by UT Adviser K K Sharma. The garden has been developed by the Municipal Corporation with financial aid from the Ministry of Tourism.

A variety of sections have been created in the garden depicting different ecosystems.

The scheme of the development of the garden (Valley of Animals) in Sector-49 C & D was sanctioned under the central financial assistance scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism at a cost of Rs 1.40 crore. the Municipal Corporation has made an expenditure of Rs 1.09 crore in the development of the garden. The site was earlier low-lying and full of wild growth and construction waste.

Valley of Animals,spread over an area of 7 acres,consists of four biomes – namely temperate,green grass,desert and forest. Apart from these biomes,a saucer-shaped water feature has been constructed to depict the aquatic biome and an oasis has also been created in the lowest area of the garden to recharge the sub soil water.

Two pairs of dinosaurs – the herbivores and carnivores,Diplodocus and Tyrannosaurs,25 feet in height,have been installed at the two entry points. Even the benches kept in the garden are in shape of animals.

The parking has been constructed at both entries to accommodate 200 cars. Various animals of different biomes have been erected by creating topiary figures.

Mayor Raj Bala Malik and Municipal Commissioner Vivek Pratap Singh,along with other officials and councillors were present.

A number of theme-based gardens are under construction in the city,especially in the southern sectors. These are at different stages of completion.
