The deputy commissioner has strongly directed banks to act on loan applications till January 31.
There were reports that the banks did not entertain as many as 40 applications sent by loan seekers to start their small businesses under various government schemes in the city.
DC Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said he held a meeting with all the bankers and directed them to sanction the loan after completion of the formalities.
He added that he directed the bankers who received loan applications to take action till January 31 or face action.
“We have received complaints that the banks do not entertain loan applications and the officials behave rudely with the applicants. As of now 40 loan applications were sent ranging from Rs 2 lakh to 10 lakh for starting their businesses, but they were not given any assurance,” said an official.
Chief lead district manager R K Saini admitted that some of the banks are not entertaining loan applications. He said he held a meeting with senior bank officials to know the number of loan applications.
