At Jugnu Bazaar shop, splurge & be part of a social movement
Jugnu…was a little bird, robust, full of life and the inspiration for a bazaar that will sell hope for many. I found this bird in the middle of a road, one which had survived many cars and found it so typically Punjabi and so the name, recalls Payal Sodhi of People for Animals,as she talks about Jugnu Bazaar,an event thats unique in many ways. Jugnu Bazaar is a cause that hopes to involve people in the change that they want to see in society. People expect a lot from NGOs and this is their chance to be part of the change, quips Adarsh Manocha,an NRI,who is absorbed in the entire process of generating awareness and funds for various NGOs which support the cause of women, physically and mentally challenged children, environment ,street children…NGOs in these competitive times, feels Payal, need to create their own product lines and involve the youth with them. The philosophy of Jugnu Bazaar is that it will provide a platform to various non- government organizations to come together for the promotion of their work through their products and the funds generated through the sale of these would help them run their projects and activities. Whats more,it will provide an opportunity to the general public to contribute to the social sector, Adarsh displays a range of hand-made,recycled,environment-friendly bags, folders, diaries, slip pads, lamp shades, jewellery boxes, photo frames, pencils, gift wrappings, antique tiles, paintings, photographs and a brand-news range of eco and utility art from the street children of Good Beginnings. People can come forward to not only support us by buying, but also give their inputs and services, adds Payal, who hopes to make the Bazaar a regular feature and also raise funds for the much-needed ambulance for animals. The Bazaar will be on at Taj Chandigarh on May 17,from 11.00 am to 8.00 pm and is being supported by Pepsi,Shivalik Breweries,Mercedes Benz,Dish TV,Pernod Ricard India and Taj Chandigarh. The media sponsor of the event is The Indian Express.
