Administrations double standards
When it comes to taking preventive steps for swine flu in the city; the Administration was quick enough to issue advisories to schools asking them not to organise any functions; however it went ahead organising the Chandigarh Carnival and took the plea that there was an element of option involved. If anybody is having flu like symptoms; he/she should not come to the carnival, a senior UT official said.
Legal chori
Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria is busy these days facilitating a lakhon ki chori. The Commissioner was heard throughout the week on an FM channel asking the residents to steal money in a perfectly legal manner as part of a contest organised by the station. He claimed to have counted the money himself and kept it in the locker. And his enthusiasm was certainly hard to miss. Jiyo, dil se!
Rowdy legal eagles
In the mob of hundreds of lawyers raising slogans of maaro, inke kapde utaaro, joota maaro (thrash them, take off their clothes, slap them with shoes) there was barely any advocate who knew the reason for their unlawful assembly. When enquired about the genesis of the fight, one lawyer said Who the hell knows? I am here because all advocates are here. By the way,do you know what has happened ?. This, from an enthusiastic lawyer who was standing on a railing and shouting at the top of his voice Maaro Maaro.
Insider-outsider
Dr V K Anand, who recently retired from PU after putting in 34 years of service, got a rude shock after he was asked to pay Rs 1,500 as membership fee by the university library. The man responsible for changing the face of the library by introducing an electronically managed set-up was not expecting that he would be asked to pay. Though Dr Anand has no regrets and says that it is the rule that outsider has to pay,but what is bothering him is the fact that he has become an outsider at a place which he thought was his home.
Please,no quoting!
They may have strongly disliked the abominable conduct of their brethren for the ruckus created by them last week on the court premises, but when it comes to making the criticism public, the response of advocates was Please dont quote us,we are a part of this Bar. On the other hand, some were deeply concerned about the upcoming elections rather than the plight of family which was illegally detained for three hours.
