Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal called up Vijay Kumar Sharma on Sunday to congratulate him for winning three gold medals in the ongoing Commonwealth Games. Vijay,who serves as a Subedar in the Indian Army,also won a silver in the 25 metre rapid pistol shooting on Sunday.
The CM also congratulated Vijays family staying at Harsour village in Hamirpur district. Vijay Kumar Sharmas three gold medals in shooting events have proven that youth of the state are outstanding performers in armed forces as well as sports. The state is proud of him, he said.
To promote shooting in the state,Dhumal said,a 10-metre shooting range of national and international standards had been constructed at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Shimla.
We hope that Samresh Jung,who belongs to Sirmour district and Meena Kumari,from Bilaspur district,would also excel in shooting events at the CWG, said the CM.
Director,Youth Services and Sports,J R Katwal,who is working as Nodal Officer and Officer on Special Duty in the organising committee of CWG,too,personally congratulated the young shooter.
In a statement issued on Sunday,Katwal said Samresh Jung had won seven gold medals in CWG 2006 and would participate in the standard pistol pair and individual events on October 12 and 13. On the same days,Meena Kumari will also participate in the sports rifle prone pair and individual events.
