Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday renewed the attack on his nephew and former Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal accusing him of sullying the image of the Badal family by betraying his mother party, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal.
The Chief Minister also minced no words in targeting veteran leader Surjit Singh Barnala, accusing him of trying to harm the SAD.
Addressing a gathering during his Sangat Darshan programmes in Muktsar, the Chief Minister said while his family rendered selfless service to the party, the Manpreet left it solely to pursue his vested political ambition.
Manpreet after parting ways with the SAD launched the Peoples Party of Punjab. The CM accused the PPP chief of joining hands with the Congress in a clandestine manner to betray the SAD despite being given the key portfolio of Finance Minister in the SAD-BJP government. He was sacked as FM last year following a row over debt waiver issue. He was also later expelled from the party.
Manpreet and former Chief Minister Surjit Singh Barnala along with Left parties recently floated the Sanjha Morcha (United Front) ahead of the Assembly due early next year. Manpreet is perhaps living in a fools paradise thinking he could jeopardize the electoral prospects of SAD in the assembly polls but he is sadly mistaken as the people of Punjab are wise enough to teach him a lesson, Badal said.
Slamming former Tamil Nadu Governor Barnala, the Chief Minister said it is ironical that a person who throughout his political career enjoyed the fruits of power due to SAD was now trying to cause damage to the party.
But he (Barnala) will not succeed, the CM said, adding that the Sanjha Morcha would meet the same fate in the coming Assembly elections as the Panthic Morcha, which tasted a humiliating defeat in the recently concluded general elections of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC).
Also launching a scathing attack on the Congress, the CM blamed it for putting farmers of the state in the deep debt trap and adding that unprecedented hike in the agricultural inputs have already crushed the local peasantry.
