City shivers as mercury plummets to 5.8 degrees

The city experienced one of the coldest nights of the season,with the minimum temperature plummeting to 5.8 degrees,one degree below normal. While on Sunday the minimum temperature was 8.5 degrees,it saw a dip of 2.7 degrees on Monday.

The Met Department has predicted a harsh winter this year. The coming days would be partly cloudy,which is likely to increase the minimum temperature.

The maximum temperature at 21.8 degrees was normal,according to the Met Department. The sun shone brightly during the day which gave some respite from the cold. However,during the evening the chill was back. The lowest minimum temperature recorded in the city is zero degrees in 1973. Last year the lowest minimum temperature was 3.2 degrees while it was 5 degrees in 2008.
