Chandigarh Golf Club: Court to hear plea to ban ex-members from contesting polls

A civil suit seeking a permanent injunction on five former members of the Chandigarh Golf Club from contesting elections to office bearers of the club is slated to come up for hearing on Saturday in the court of Civil Judge,Senior Division,Sudhir Parmar.

In his application,the complainant Col B S Goraya has accused R S Sandhu (former president),B S Gill (former vice-president),K S Brar (former secretary),Sukhjeet Singh (former captain) and Captain P S Chimni (former secretary) of collectively spending Rs 2,49,80,000 against the sanctioned budget of Rs 1,31,35,000 during their tenure in 2007-08.

Explaining Clause 16 D of the bylaws of the club,Goraya said if the actual expenses incurred were 5 per cent higher than the prescribed budget,then the president,vice-president,captain,secretary and treasurer shall be debarred from holding any office in the future.

If Goraya’s claim is true,the former office bearers had overshot their prescribed budget by 90.21 percent.

Goraya added that elections for the 2009-10 term is slated for April 26 and that B S Gill,who filed nomination papers on April 16,has not withdrawn his candidature.
