Tantrik held for aducting youth

Ludhiana: The Faridkot police arrested ‘tantrik’ Kuldeep Singh,for allegedly masterminding the abduction of an youth,which took place during the intervening night of August 26 and 27. According to the police,Kuldeep had kidnapped Gurbhej Singh — son of Sherjang Singh,a farmer and property dealer in Mehmuana village. Kuldeep,who was arrested on Monday,was presented in a local court on Tuesday,which granted the police a four-day demand. Bhupinder Singh,SHO of Sadar police station,said: “This tantrik had demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore from the family of the boy. We are yet to recover the boy.”

Low lying areas still flooded

Ludhiana: The low lying villages of Ferozepur are still under flood water even though the water has receded in most of the areas. Divisional commissioner R Venkatratnam along with deputy commissioner S Karuna Raju visited Muthiawala,Dheera Ghara,Bandala,Tali Gulam,Baghewala,Basti Kishan Singhwali and Hamad Chak villages on Tuesday. The DC said that motor pumps will be provided in the villages to pump out the water. He also ordered the health teams to visit the vilages.

Water in Bhakra Dam near max capacity

Chandigarh: Bhatinda,Ferozepur and Mansa districts witnessed heavy rain during the last 24 hours while water level at Bhakra Dam reached 1677.23 feet,just three feet less then the maximum capacity. According to an official spokesman. Around 17,565 cusec water was discharged from the Pong Dam against the inflow of 20,243 cusec. The water level in Pong Dam was 1385.85 feet against its maximum capacity of 1390 feet

Rain grounds Amarinder copter

Ludhiana: Local Congress leaders and cadre at Faridkot were left high and dry on Tuesday after state party president Capt Amarinder Singh,who was supposed to address a meeting,failed to reach here. Amarinder’s helicopter failed to take off from Halwara Air Force Air base due to rain and bad weather. Various local leaders and ticket aspirants for the 2012 Vidhan Sabha elections had come to the rally to display their strength. Meanwhile,youth Congress leader Jasbir Singh Mahant alleged that another local leader had manhandled him,torn his clothes and even snatched his gold chain. Mahant later filed a written complaint with the local police.
