HC questions quota for police ward
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has restrained Punjab from carrying out fresh appointments of wards of Punjab Police personnel against two per cent reservations made for them. The court also directed the state to explain the reasons and the logic behind making such reservation. The directions were passed by Justice Surya Kant on a petition filed by Ranjit Singh. The petitioner had challenged the state governments action of not giving him appointment against the seats reserved for wards of personnel. The petitioner had contended that in 1996,the Punjab Government had issued instructions, whereby two posts were reserved in the direct recruitment for the wards of Punjab Police personnel and a number of appointments were made under this reservation policy.
