1 killed,59 hurt in Rohru bus accident
One passenger died while 59 others were injured when a private bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge at Samoli Khud in Rohru of Shimla district,about 100 kilometers from here. At least 60 persons were on board,said the police.
The severely injured passengers 31 of them were referred to IGMC Hospital,Shimla,while the rest were admitted to Rohru hospital. The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Shyamla Devi of Banuti of Rohru sub-division,the police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Shimla J S Rana said that only four of the passengers were referred to Shimla in more serious condition as per the medical officer’s report. The cause of accident is yet to be ascertained. An immediate compensation of Rs 10,000 has been given to the family of the deceased and Rs 5,000 to the injured. The bus (HP-63-1100) was on its way from Rohru to Banuti-Devidhar,covering a distance of about 35 km. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shiv Kumar Sharma said,”Prima facie and as per statements of the passengers,it seems to be a case of rash and negligent driving and a case has been registered in our police station for it. However,we are also looking at the possibility of mechanical failure.”
RMS Chail celebrates 50 years in Himachal
The Rashtriya Military School (RMS) at Chail will celebrate its glorious past in the state,beginning Saturday,for a year. The residential school was founded by King George at Jalandhar in 1925 but shifted to Nowgong in 1950 and was relocated to Chail in 1960. It is the oldest military school in Asia,established after the First World War in 1922 with donations from King George V’s patriotic fund. The foundation stone of the school was laid by King George in February 1922 and the school started functioning at Jalandhar Cantonment in 1925. Since then,the cadets are known as “Georgians”. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal,who is in Delhi on an official tour,will fly to Chail on Saturday to kick-start the year-long celebrations and a host of guests are also expected to grace the occasion. The culmination of the function will take place with a captivating cultural programme by the cadets of the school. The school is located amid pine and deodar forests. The world’s highest cricket ground is also located at Chail and is used as a training and playground for cadets. In 2007,the Chail Military School along with its sister institutes,the Bangalore Military School (Karnataka),Belgaum Military School (Karnataka),Ajmer Military School (Rajasthan) and Dholpur Military School (Rajasthan) were renamed Rashtriya Military Schools of India.
