Over 6,000 attend free eye and medical camp at Bilaspur
Shah Talai (Bilaspur): Over 6,000 villagers were examined and given medicines at a free medical camp organised by Jind Baba Charitable Trust,which has been holding this annual camp at Shah Talai for the last 14 years. The three-day camp concluded on Sunday. The trust also gave away cash awards to meritorious students from the area who obtained top three positions in middle and high school examinations held this year. Books and writing material were distributed among all students studying in the Government High School at Shah Talai. A team headed by Dr M S Ahlawat,former medical superintendent,Sonepat,operated upon 155 patients. Those operated for cataract were asked to come on December 3 for a follow-up. Another team headed by Dr M S Jain treated patients suffering from general ailments,bronchitis and asthma. Orthopedic surgeon Dr Rajeev treated patients suffering from back and knee pains. Over 250 patients were given dental treatment. Dr Nitin Jain,Dr Yash Pal and their team members built seven dentures on the spot. Dr Jain also detected two oral cancer cases and referred the patients to PGI.
Debate Punjab issues with Manpreet first and then us: Cong to Sukhbir
Amritsar: Responding to a recent remark by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal asking for an open debate with the Congress on Punjabs issues,the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) on Monday asked him to first answer the questions being posed by his cousin and former finance minister Manpreet Badal first before calling anyone else for the discussion. The PPCC said this in a statement issued by Congress leaders from Majha Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa,Harpartap Singh Ajnala,S S Sukhsarkaria,S S Kanthunangal,Tarsem Singh DC,Harminder Gill,Raman Behl,Ashok Sharma,Dharmbir Agnihotri,B P S Sachar and Yoginderpal Dhingra. Sukhbir must answer the questions raised by Manpreet Badal about corruption and poor governance. He should also explain who patronises transport,sand,land and cable mafia in the state, said the statement. Rebutting Sukhbirs claims of repeating a Bihar in the Punjab Assembly election,Randhawa said: While Bihar is shining,the misrule of the Akali-BJP government has turned Punjab into almost a failed state. Why will people vote him?
Rs 32 lakh research project to GNDU
Amritsar: The Department of Science and Technology,Government of India,has sanctioned a major research project to the Department of Physics,Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU),on Synthesis of nano/micro wires on semi-conducting substrates. It granted Rs 32 lakh to the university accelerate research and development by focusing on nanotechnology,said a GNDU press release. Dean,Academic Affairs Prof Surinder Singh,has been made in-charge of the project. He said the project would be useful in developing semiconducting electronic devices for energy,health and medical sciences.
