BJP asks for bigger share in civic body sub-committees

It might not be a smooth sail for the Congress this year when it comes to electing members to the F&CC and sub-committees that are constituted every year. The BJP leaders are claiming that since they have one councillor more than the Congress in the House,they should be given a bigger share in the committees. Since the Mayor is also a member of the F&CC,BJP claims that this will take the number of Congress members to three which is not acceptable to them.

The elections for the fourth term of the Municipal Corporation threw up a hung house. There are 12 councillors of the SAD-BJP combine,11 of the Congress,two from BSP and one independent. BJP leaders claim that the Congress managed to get its Mayor elected due to support from the nominated councillors. However,for the F&CC and sub-committees they would seek more share.

The Municipal Corporation has 12 sub-committees that are constituted every year. Each committee has nine members including a chairperson and vice-chairperson. In case there is more than one person interested in becoming the chairperson then elections are held.
