Basant Panchami paints Tricity yellow

Basant Panchami,the birthday of Goddess Saraswati,was celebrated with its traditional gaiety and religious fervour at schools and colleges in the tri-city.

Basant Panchami,the birthday of Goddess Saraswati,was celebrated with its traditional gaiety and religious fervour at schools and colleges in the tri-city. The students of Shishu Niketan Public School,Mohali were first briefed about Basant Panchami. For this occasion,the school’s tiny tots had earlier been asked to come to the school attired in yellow coloured dresses along with yellow coloured food in their tiffins. Their teachers were also dressed in yellow,yellow being the colour of the day. They were then escorted to the school’s Saraswati idol in order to pay obeisance to the Goddess of wisdom and learning,Goddess Saraswati.

The campus of Baddi University in presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof A K Sahajpal,senior officials,staff and students of the university celebrated Basant Panchami. It started with Saraswati Vandana followed by Shanti Yagya performed by the toppers of the university from all branches and sports captains. The student actively participated in the event. In the address to the students,the vice-chancellor threw light on the importance of the Basant Panchami,and Saraswati Pooja.

The principal,staff and students of GGDSD College,Sector 32 celebrated Basant Panchami with full traditional gaiety and fervour and enthusiasm in the college premises today. The function commenced with prayers being offered to Goddess Saraswati to seek her blessings. Meera Sharma,senior faculty member from the Department of English threw light on the importance of this day and the celebrations associated with the festival. Speaking on the occasion,Principal,Prof A C Vaid,threw light on the Vedic significance of Basant Panchami. Keeping up the tradition,sweet yellow rice was served to all as ‘prasad’.

A colourful kite flying competition was organised between Classes VII and VIII of Blue Bird High School,PAnchkula along with various activities to celebrate Basant Panchmi. A small cultural function was organised by students of Class V to VIII.
