Punjabs former Deputy CM passes away in Mohali
Mohali: A former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Mahant Ram Prakash Das died of brain hemorrhage at Fortis Hospital here Sunday. The septuagenarian Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) senior leader was admitted at the hospital few days back after sustaining injuries in a road mishap,said a hospital spokesperson,while confirming that as Das was undergoing treatment for his multiple injuries,he suffered brain hemorrhage leading to his death. A resident of Hoshiarpur district,Das was presently international vice-president and head of Punjab and Uttaranchal state units of the VHP. He was a bachelor and belonged to Kasmiri Pandit community. He had also served as Health and Food and Civil Supplies Minister during the Lakshman Singh Gill regime in Punjab.
Two child labourers rescued
Zirakpur: In a raid conducted by the Labour Inspector,two child labourers,who were found working at two different dhabas in Zirakpur,were rescued on Sunday.
Swaran Singh,Labour Inspector,Dera Bassi,said the department had initiated an Anti-Child Labour drive from November 14 to 20,during which different shops,restaurants and offices were raided on the first day of the drive to check and rescue the child labourers. A 12-year-old boy was found working at Guru Nanak dhaba on Chandigarh-Ambala Highway while another teenager was rescued from a dhaba situated in Sabzi Mandi here, informed the Inspector,while adding that legal proceedings have been initiated against the dhaba owners under relevant law provisions.
Four-day conference of nuclear medicine concludes
Chandigarh: The four-day conference of society of nuclear medicine concluded on Sunday in the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research,(PGIMER),Chandigarh.
The major topics covered today was Peptide Receptor RadionuclideTherapy (PRRNT) of neuroendocrine tumors: basic principles,current state and future perspectives by Dr. Richard Baum from Bad Berka,Germany.
One arrested with smack
Chandigarh: The Operation Cell of the Chandigarh Police arrested a Sector 25 resident and recovered smack from his possession. The accused has been identified as 39-year-old Omi,a resident of Bhaskar Colony. Omi was arrested from Sector 38 with 10 grams smack. He was booked under the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was produced in the court and was sent to judicial custody.
