Security forces on Tuesday re-established contact with terrorists near the Billawar area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district.
Sources said this followed a gunshot being fired on a party of security forces and the police, who have been searching the forests near Billawar for the past few days following reports about the movement of terrorists there.
Senior officials said further details of the operation are awaited.
Security forces had first made contact with terrorists in the area on January 7, when the latter opened fire while search and combing operations were underway in Kamad Nullah following reports of suspicious movement.
Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, security forces and the police have stepped up such search operations in the region.
