Man accused of stealing Rs 15 crore

Chandigarh:A man has been accused of stealing Rs 15 crore from a bank account. Gurveen Peerjada,a resident of Sector 15,reported that the accused,Jitender Singh Dua,had stolen 79 cheques from him on December 25. The complainant alleged that the cash was withdrawn from his account by the accused. A case has been registered at Sector-11 police station.

‘Join BJP’ campaign launched

Chandigarh:Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha,District No 2,began the ‘Join BJP’ campaign under the leadership of district president Sanjeev Verma on Sunday. Youngsters filled forms for primary membership of the party. Verma said BJP was the only political party with a vision for the nation.

550 senior citizens attend medical camp

Chandigarh:Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association organised a free socio-medical camp in collaboration with the UT Administration,Municipal Corporation and Chandigarh Police for the residents of Bapu Dham Colony on Sunday. This was the first camp,which was attended by 550 people,in a series of camps that will be a part of over a month-long celebration that will culminate on October 1,the International Senior Citizens Day.

Five held for extortion

Chandigarh:The police have arrested five persons,including a woman,in connection with blackmail and extortion. A man hailing from Uttarakhand alleged that Raj Kumar,Shri Kant,Rakesh Sharma,Jitender,and a woman associate had blackmailed him and demanded Rs 20,000. The complainant stated that he gave them Rs 5,000 on Thursday. A case has been registered at the Sector-39 police station.

ABVP to felicitate toppers

Chandigarh:Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members announced on Sunday that it would organise its fourth toppers’ felicitation function on August 23 at Law Auditorium,Panjab University. Party members informed that all the students who had secured the first and second positions in their respective classes in each department of the University would be honoured. Anil Joshi,Cabinet Minister of Punjab,will be the chief guest.
