SBI shootout: Staff member sent to judicial custody

The Chandigarh police produced an employee of the State Bank of India (SBI) Jagtar Singh,a resident of Moga,Punjab,in a city court on Sunday. He has been sent to 14 days judicial custody. Jagtar Singh,a member of the SBI union,was arrested on Saturday after an alleged accidental fire from his pistol injured another employee,Somnath,in Sector 17 on Saturday evening. Police said,“The accidental shot was fired outside the main branch of the SBI in Sector 17 from the licensed pistol of Jagtar Singh,who was later arrested. Somnath who was sitting nearby was injured when the bullet grazed his ear.” Police have registered a case under section 336 IPC and 25-27-54/59 Arms Act in Sector 17 police station against Jagtar Singh. Police also seized the pistol and sent it to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL),Chandigarh.

Gold jewellery and cash stolen

A theft of Rs 1.1 lakh and and gold jewellery worth over 5 lakh have been reported from House No 701,Phase 3b1,Mohali. The theft took place between 6-7 pm. Sangeeta,owner of the house,had complained to the police that on Saturday her family had gone to Chandigarh and on their return,they found the grille of the kitchen window had been removed. The thieves took away cash and gold jewellery worth. A case has been registered at the Mattour police station.

Civic body challans 60 encroachers

The Municipal Corporation challaned 60 encroachers and seized various items from Shastri Market,Sector 22 and Sadar Market Sector 19 during an anti-encroachment drive held on Sunday. Additional Commissioner Lalit Siwach said that it was observed that defaulters encroached upon Municipal land during the holidays. He said the MC will carry out such special anti-encroachment drives on holidays regularly.

Code of conduct for CREDAI members

The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) is introducing a model code of conduct for its members. National president,CREDAI,Lalit Jain said that the code of conduct ensures transparent display and sale of real estate. There will also be a grievances redressal cell for people who have complaints against real estate companies or agents. Jain said the association will revoke membership of a member who does not abide by the code of conduct. He said the sanctions from various authorities for approved plans and commencement certificates should be made available for the perusal of the purchaser at the time of signing an agreement. Jain admitted that many developers start booking flats or plots even before receiving sanctions. At times,the developer does not get the permission at all,and people end up losing their hard-earned money.
