In a significant administrative move, Chandigarh’s Director General of Police (DGP), Surendra Singh Yadav, has been transferred and appointed as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Border Security Force (BSF) on deputation. Raj Kumar Singh has been assigned the officiating charge of DGP Chandigarh until further orders.

Yadav was posted as the Chandigarh DGP in March 2024.

Surendra Singh Yadav, a 1997-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the AGMUT cadre, has had a distinguished career marked by his commitment to transparency and accountability within the police force. Prior to his tenure in Chandigarh, Yadav served as the Chief of Delhi’s Anti-Corruption Branch, where he played a pivotal role in combating corruption within the capital’s administration.

During his time as Chandigarh’s DGP, Yadav initiated several measures to enhance policing standards and public trust. He conducted ‘Sampark Sabha’ sessions to address grievances of police personnel and promote ethical practices. In one such session held on March 22, 2025, Yadav emphasized the importance of integrity, stating, “The fight against corruption begins with a single ‘NO’.”

Yadav also implemented proactive strategies to improve law enforcement effectiveness. He directed senior officers to participate in night patrols
