Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta said 21 companies have already started investments in the current financial year, which would generate significant direct and indirect employment.
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to attract large-scale investments and generate substantial employment opportunities under the Semiconductor Policy, 2024, to offer special incentives on a case-to-case basis for investments of Rs 3,000 crore or more.
Speaking to mediapersons, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said semiconductor manufacturing is rapidly expanding in countries such as the United States, Japan, Taiwan and those in Europe.
After the state government’s decision, semiconductor units will be eligible for interest subsidy, employee cost reimbursement, exemption in net SGST for a period of 10 years, 100% EPF reimbursement for UP domiciles (up to Rs 2,000 per month), concessions in water charges, and electricity tariff relief of Rs 2 per unit for 10 years.

The cabinet also approved amendments to the recruitment process for regional sports officers in the Sports Department. Of 18 sanctioned posts, two-thirds (12 posts) will now be filled through promotion and one-third (6 posts) through international medal-winning athletes from the Olympics, Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. The decision aims at balancing administrative experience with sporting excellence.
The Cabinet gave the go-ahead to the allotment of 50 acres of land free of cost for the establishment of a campus of the National Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar, in Varanasi. The land, located in Raja Talab tehsil, will be allotted on a 99-year lease after transfer from the Animal Husbandry Department. The new campus will strengthen education and technical capacity in forensic science, cybercrime and criminal investigation in the state.
Minister Khanna said the Cabinet also approved the establishment of a multi-super speciality hospital with 500 beds in Varanasi at the place of Shiv Prakash Gupta divisional district hospital.

He said the 500 multi-super speciality hospital will require a cost of Rs 315 crore and will be completed in 4 years time. 60 per cent of the project’s cost would be borne by the Centre and the remaining by the state, Khanna said.
