After initial confusion,Amandeep Chehel declared winner at DAV

Even as almost all city colleges affiliated to the Panjab University announced the results by 2 pm after polling ended at 1pm,DAV College,Sector 10,was the only one to declare the results as late as 4 pm

Even as almost all city colleges affiliated to the Panjab University announced the results by 2 pm after polling ended at 1pm,DAV College,Sector 10,was the only one to declare the results as late as 4 pm. The confusion was due to two candidates with the same name — Amandeep Singh – both claiming to have been elected president of the college.

Initially,SOPU candidate,Amandeep Singh Bagadia filed his papers for the post of president at DAV College but at the last moment, after objections were filed, his nomination was cancelled due to shortage of attendance. After that, another candidate,Amandeep Singh Chehel, contested and was declared elected today. Chehel is a first year student of MA Public Administration, who contested the elections and won it.

College officials themselves were confused over the issue and announced Bagadia as the college president. Amandeep Singh Bagadia, who was getting his pictures taken with his supporters, claimed only he contested the elections and nobody else.

Amandeep Singh Chehel said,“The whole confusion was created by the students. Bagadia was leading our party for a long time,so he will remain our party president but I contested the elections this year so I am the campus president. The nominations were on my name.”

Later, the Dean’s Students Welfare,Satish Gandhi told Chandigarh Newsline,“It is Amandeep Singh Chehel who has won the election and not Amandeep Singh Bagadia. We are not responsible if anyone comes and announces himself as the president.”
