With sudden change of weather,Dharamsala in the Kangra valley received snowfall after a gap of more than 35 years throwing the life out of gear. Dharamsala recorded more than 4 inches of snow till the afternoon. Shimla and nearby region also experienced a record snowfall bringing cheers to the states tourism industry.
Immediately after the reports about snowfall,the places were thronged by tourists.
Snow is a white charm. If Kashmir can encash on it,why we should not welcome this gift of God, said Arun Sharma,director (tourism).
However,the snowfall also brought miseries for the people,including the locals and tourists who remained stranded after disruption of the vehicular traffic,electricity and water supplies.
The worst perhaps was Dharamsala,where administration was caught unawares as it was not prepared for the snowfall.
Superintendent of police,Kangra,Diljeet Thakur ,said,The traffic in main Dharamsala has been disrupted and there is no electricity as fallen trees and heavy snow has snapped the power supply lines.
Till late in evening,most hill destinations in the state were still witnessing light to moderate snow fall bringing down the temperature. The minimum temperature recorded in Shimla was minus 0.7 degrees Celsius.
According to the Met department,Shimla recorded 7.8 cm of snow till early Saturday,the Meteorological Office director,Manmohan Singh,said.
