Creativity and innovation often get stifled in the world of film music. “That’s why I decided to do something different,” says DJ Hamza,a 28-year-old DJ who was in town for a gig at Zinc Lounge at Sector 26.

Hamza, who has been DJing for the last three years, has done an MBA in Music Business from New York. “I wanted to know the nuances, the profit, loss and management and the way a brand is created,” he says. Hamza returned to New Delhi to set up the Wind Horse Records. Last year,Hamza launched the label with his own Sufi Soul EP.

Hamza, who is fascinated by tribal and folk music,is now utilising their potential and introducing them on international dance floors. “That is how fusion is supposed to be done,” says Hamza, whose music combines tribal, and funky sounds with world music influences. “I just want to experiment, give the listeners a variety and create a business savvy platform,” he adds. His upcoming releases include artistes such as Yungchen LLamo of Real World Records and Indian classical maestro Sunanda Sharma.
