Two senior officers of the Bruhath Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) were taken into custody by the Lok Ayukta police for allegedly demanding bribes to release payments to contractors. The accused officials have been identified as Kanakaraju, a Chief Accounts Officer (CAO) and Narayanaswamy, an accounts superintendent.
The Lok Ayukta police conducted a raid on the CAO’s office on Tuesday after registering a suo-moto case based on information from some contractors. The police seized many documents from the office.
The contractors alleged that the CAO’s office had not released payments to them. They complained that the CAO was not making payments to the contractors on the basis of pending bills. The CAO and his officers were demanding bribes for releasing payments, the contractors have alleged.
