After success in Karnataka bypolls, Congress to hold rally in Hassan tomorrow
The Congress has rebranded the rally from its initial purpose of demonstrating support for CM Siddaramaiah to one that highlights the government's achievements.
The programme was initially expected to be along the lines of 'Siddaramotsava' held in 2022 to mark Siddaramaiah's 75th birthday. (File Photo)Following its win in bypolls held in three constituencies in the state, the Karnataka Congress will hold a massive rally in Hassan on Thursday.
Though the event was initially planned to generate support for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and was named “Siddaramaiah Swabhimani Janandolana Samavesha”, it was changed to “Jana Kalyana Samavesha” after Karnataka Congress decided to take over the event. The plan for such a rally had taken shape to consolidate support for Siddaramaiah after graft allegations were raised against him.
The programme was initially expected to be along the lines of ‘Siddaramotsava’ held in 2022 to mark Siddaramaiah’s 75th birthday, where thousands of his supporters attended the event. A similar rally was to be held under the banner of backward communities, and the event was expected to be Siddaramaiah-centric.
Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar announced on Tuesday that the programme will be organised by the state Congress with support from various organisations. “At the rally, we want to communicate what the government is doing and the development it has achieved,” he said.
The event was originally likened to Siddaramaiah’s Ahinda convention, which he had organised before he was expelled from the Janata Dal (Secular) two decades ago. Shivakumar dismissed claims that the programme was similar. “This is a party event to thank workers and voters,” Shivakumar said.
The Congress swept all three Assembly bypolls in Karnataka–Shiggaon, Sandur, and Channapatna–defeating two BJP candidates and a JD(S) candidate.
