VMC Rs 3,568-cr draft budget proposal: Standing Committee junks cleanliness tax

The Standing Committee has additionally proposed the construction of two new flyovers at Sussen junction and Rajmahal Road to “ease traffic snarls”.

: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation Standing Committee accepted the draft budget proposal of Rs 3,568 crore for the financial year 2016-17, submitted by Municipal Commissioner last week, with minor alterations Wednesday. The Standing Committee has additionally proposed the construction of two new flyovers at Sussen junction and Rajmahal Road to “ease traffic snarls”.

Standing Committee Chairperson Dr Jigisha Sheth said, “The Municipal Commissioner H S Patel proposed Rs 5 crore increase in the taxes by way of Rs 2 crore commercial tax levied on hospitals and educational institutions. We have rejected the proposal. Instead, we have levied the taxes on multiplexes, cinema theatres and nationalised banks and hotels. We have also rejected the proposal to levy Rs 3 crore as cleanliness tax and removed cleanliness tax.”
