After two schools, Vadodara hotel receives hoax bomb threat

After two city-based schools received bomb threats on Friday, a Vadodara hotel on Saturday evening reported a threat email that warned of the presence of an explosive on the premises. The threat was concluded to be a hoax.

The Vadodara city police confirmed that the email received by the hotel had content similar to the ones received by the two schools on Friday, which was signed by the sender as “Madras Tigers”. A senior official said that the mail was sent to the hotel through a different email address in the name of ‘Nayanthara Diana Kurien’.
The recent spate of email threats in Vadodara city have echoed previous hoax threats sent to other institutions, referencing political figures in Tamil Nadu and warning of large-scale explosions, according to senior police officers.

Vadodara city Commissioner of Police Narasimha Komar told The Indian Express, “The threat email was received by the hotel in the morning but the manager saw it only on Saturday evening and alerted the police… Since the content of the mail is similar to the previous threats and non-specific to Vadodara, we dispatched the teams of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and other units but completed our checks and exercises without disrupting the commercial activity in the hotel.”

Komar said that the city police was in touch with other agencies to track down the senders of the emails as in the previous cases of hoax emails, primary cyber crime investigations had led the police to servers outside India.
