Mohali police has arrested a key accused in the land fraud case involving the sale of properties using forged documents.
According to the police, an FIR dated June 23, 2025, was registered under Sections 318(4), 316(2), 61(2), 336(2)(3), 337, 339, 340(2) and 249 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, it came to light that the accused, along with his associates, specifically targeted land belonging to persons who had either passed away or had been residing abroad for a long period.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (City-2), Harsimran Singh Ball, said the action was carried out by a police team led by Inspector Amandeep Kamboj, Station House Officer, IT City Police Station.
Ball stated that the prime accused, Gurjit Singh, in connivance with his accomplices, procured forged General Power of Attorney (GPA) documents, fake papers and counterfeit seals from Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh). Using these forged documents, the accused illegally sold the targeted properties.
Acting on the evidence collected during the investigation, police arrested Gurjit Singh, son of Amrik Singh, a resident of village Dubli Khera, Fatehgarh Sahib district. The accused was produced before a competent court, which granted police remand for further questioning.
Police officials said that further investigation is underway, and the possibility of more arrests in the case cannot be ruled out. The case remains under active investigation.
