Traders shut shop

Textile and sari merchants of Ratan Pol shuttered their shops on Tuesday in solidarity with Anna Hazare and his Jan Lokpal movement.

Textile and sari merchants of Ratan Pol shuttered their shops on Tuesday in solidarity with Anna Hazare and his Jan Lokpal movement.

There were reports that some of the protesters who rallied in Ahmedabad ransacked a few shops in the area to force them to shut,but police denied any such incident.

Vasant Tirodkar,vice-president of the Ahmedabad Shopkeepers Association,said the traders had voluntarily shut down their shops. He denied there was any tension in the area.

Kalupur Police Inspector DS Patel said no incidents of stone-pelting or ransacking were reported from the area.

Meanwhile,members of the Jan Lokpal Andolan Samiti agitating under the banner of India Against Corruption took out a candle-light procession at Vastrapur Lake and held a discussion there on government’s Lokpal Bill vs Anna’s Jan Lokpal Bill.

They also organised a musical show on the theme.
