After HRD Minister Kapil Sibal reportedly sent two pieces of the improved version of Aakash-2 tablets to Chief Minister Narendra Modi,the state Congress on Friday started registrations for free laptops to all students studying in states colleges,universities and other educational institutes if the party came to power in the Assembly elections to be held at the end of the year.
However,the party announced to provide free laptops to at least 48 students,12 from each of the four zones north,south,central and Saurashtra region of the state before the commencement of the Assembly elections.
Making the announcement,state party president Arjun Modhwadia said a draw of lots from among those having registered online and offline within 30 days from Friday would be conducted for each of the zone.
A total of 12 students,six males and six females,would be selected through draw of lots and they would be provided laptops before the official notification of the Assembly elections.
As for the rest,he said they would all be provided the same type of laptop free of charge in case the party came to power after the elections. The free laptop sop was announced by the party on September 4 as part of its sixth point in the Gujarat Praja Vikas Darshan-2012.
Modhwadia said the option of online registration was available on partys website: http://www.gujaratcongress.org The students would have to produce the computer generated online registration number for free laptops,he added.
As for those not having facility for online registration in the remote areas,he said distribution of free registration forms would soon be started by National Students Union of India (NSUI) and partys IT cell workers in all the colleges and institutes.
State NSUI president Gulabsinh Rajput and IT cell chief Rehan Gupta were also present at the media briefing.
