The BJP has lodged a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi against Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia for violating the model code of conduct in his public speech during the by-election campaign in Surat on Saturday. Modhwadia had reportedly called Chief Minister Narendra Modi a lafrebaj (debauch).
Modhwadia had gone to Surat to address a public meeting,as part of his campaign in Surat West by-election,where the alleged remark was made at the inauguration of the central election office of the Congress party for Surat West Assembly constituency.
Convener of Gujarat BJPs Election Legal Cell Parindu Bhagat said the Election Commission should take serious note of the case and even lodge an FIR against Modhwadia. Gujarat BJP has issued a press release in this regard on Sunday.
On his part,Modhwadia said he had only said that sahebs lafde need to be probed. If the BJP knows who is the saheb, then the party should find out about the lafda…, he added.
Modhwadia was referring to the recent snooping episode,in which former Minister of State for Home and Modis close aide Amit Shah is allegedly heard giving instructions to some senior Gujarat cadre police officers to track the movements of a woman allegedly at the behest of a person referred to as saheb.
