Karmic realty: Ahmedabad builders zero in on schemes at religious places

Much like the Ambani family, that came together at Chorward last year to remember their patriarch Dhirubhai Ambani and stay connected to their roots, many families in Gujarat are now taking the “Karmic realty” route to stay connected to their religion, kith and kin.

Much like the Ambani family, that came together at Chorward last year to remember their patriarch Dhirubhai Ambani and stay connected to their roots, many families in Gujarat are now taking the “Karmic realty” route to stay connected to their religion, kith and kin. Realty players from Ahmedabad are now zealously tracking this trend and introducing residential schemes at places like Ambaji,Dakor,Mahudi and Dwarka, that have a bustling footfall of religious tourists.

“Although buying homes at pilgrimage spots is not a new trend, but a lot of realty developers are now looking at this business opportunity. The entire towns of Haridwar and Rishikesh thrive on this concept. Where religion is concerned,Gujaratis are willing to part with their money and do not really look at the investment quotient so much.

The maximum investments are made by residents of Mumbai and Ahmedabad at such pilgrim spots as many undertake family reunions and visit these holy towns several times a year,” said Nirav Kothary,Regional Director (Gujarat) at Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL),a property consultant from Ahmedabad.

Many consider it a status symbol to buy a house in religious spots, while some invest in these temple towns for spiritual reasons.

“I bought an apartment in Dwarka last year on emotional grounds. We wanted to stay connected to our roots. In the past,we had to stay at hotels. So we thought it better to invest in a 2 BHK flat for Rs 15 lakh,as we visit Dwarka several times in a year,” said Priti Vayava,an Ahmedabad-based teacher.

Ambaji is another destination that gets more than 25 lakh pilgrims every year. City-based construction firm,J P Iscon Ltd has two projects lined up in Deesa town of north Gujarat,

just about 67 kms from Ambaji. Another,Ganesh Housing is offering bungalows, measuring 2,940 square feet per unit at Shrinathji in Rajasthan.
