(File/ Representational)Two junior engineers of Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) were arrested on Friday for their alleged involvement in stealing aluminium wires worth Rs 7.8 lakh and selling the same to a private contractor for Rs 3.8 lakh.
The police identified the accused as Samir Sojitra and Vikas Mevada. While Sojitra worked as a junior engineer in 66 KV sub-station compound at Kadodara in Surat district, Mevada was posted at Kim DGVCL office. Both are residents of Surat city.
The two were arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by DGVCL official Dipti Modi at Kadodara police station on July 3. In her complaint, Modi alleged that Sojitra, who was in charge of the storeroom of DGVCL at Kadodara, had taken away two drums containing aluminium wires worth Rs 7.64 lakh on April 17. Sojitra and his friend Mevada sold the same to contractor Dhaval Patel, owner of Alok Industries at Tadkeshwar village in Mandvi, for Rs 3.8 lakh, she added.
Kadodara police Sub-Inspector J S Rajput said, “Both the engineers were produced before the Kathor court, which sent them to four-day police custody. We will also arrest Dhaval Patel, who had purchased the aluminium wires from the accused.”
