The university received seven applications for admission under the supernumerary quota for MCom and MSc, and the students were granted seats. The seven students are from Surat, Saurashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
This is the second big seizure of drugs after three youths were caught with Rs 9.80 lakh worth banned substances on July 11. In March, two youth were arrested by Surat police with narcotic substances worth Rs. 1.95 lakh.
Police said the clash took place between Muslim youths and members of Maldhari community near Chandunandan Hotel at new RTO in Sonagadh town after Tanveer Pathan, a resident of the area, was beaten up by youths from the Maldhari community over old enmity.
Police sources said that Ahmed Raza was working with Fahim Machmach, a close aide of underworld don Chhota Shakeel, and that an extortion complaint had been lodged earlier against Raza with Mumbai police.
In a complaint to Kakrapar police and Tapi district Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Nayka, a farmer, said that Ishwar Nayka came to his house on July 19 and threatened him asking him to withdraw his complaint against Government Pleader Virendra Trivedi.

Surat, Feb 14 (ANI): Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar flagged off a night marathon in Surat, Gujarat. Thousands of people participated in different categories of marathon. Physically challenged people also participated in the one-kilometre category of the race. At least, 12 physically challenged people came from Pune to participate in the marathon. The physically challenged were happy to take part in the marathon which gave them a new hope to live life despite challenges. Around 15,000 people participated in the marathon but thousands more came to the venue to watch Akshay, the brand ambassador of Surat night marathon.The fund raised through this event will be used for installing closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the city, clean India project and improving facilities in a cancer hospital in Surat.
Surat, Feb 09 (ANI): The diamond industry in Surat has picked up steam after it witnessed a slump in business last year. More than 5,000 Surat polishers had lost their jobs since June 2015, as Chinese consumers pulled back luxury purchases, leaving jeweller with stocks of unsold jewellery and gems. However, Surat Diamond Association President Dinesh Navdiya said business was slowly picking up pace in the ‘Diamond city of the world’. He added that the return of workers has given a boost to the industry. Navdiya feared that the passage of Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill in the Parliament would have a negative impact on the industry.
Surat, Jan 21 (ANI): Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel was taken to the Surat district court early today. Hardik’s advocate Jaswant Wada said that Hardik had written a letter to the people stating the solution lies with the government and if the Patel community stood at a disadvantage, then he would continue the agitation against the Gujarat Government. Surat police had earlier submitted a 44-page chargesheet against Hardik in a case related to blockade of highway near Kamrej last year.
