‘I wish amicus gave clean chit to Modi’

Reacting to Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae’s report that said Chief Minister Narendra Modi could be prosecuted for the 2002 communal riots, the state government on Wednesday “wished” that Raju Ramchandran “concurred” with the observations of Special Investigation Team (SIT) and gave a clean chit to Modi.

“Gujarat is committed to the noble principles of humanitarian governance and we shall continue to do so. I wish that the amicus curiae also concurred with SIT observations and (gave) a clean chit to the Honorable Chief Minister. The buck would stop here,” said government spokesperson and minister Jay Narayan Vyas in a press statement.

“For 10 long years, certain elements went on carrying a single point venomous and false agenda. In the history of Indian governance, this is for the first time any riot in the state was so exhaustively investigated. Now that this report has come, the false and venomous propaganda must stop,” he added.

Stressing on the importance of the SIT report,Vyas said,“The SIT has examined lakhs of documents, thousands of witnesses and complaints, and not limited their investigations to Zakia Jafri’s complaint. This was done under the Honorable Supreme Court’s direct supervision. Seventeen reports have been given and the final report is an outcome of this.”

Ramchandran,in his report, has maintained that the CM can be prosecuted for for “promoting enmity among different groups”.
