Gujarat: Man chops off 4 fingers to avoid working at relative’s diamond firm

In his complaint, he said that he had left his house on December 8, and told his family that he was going to meet a friend. On the way, at Vedant Circle on Variyav Road in Amroli area, he stopped his bike. “While he was urinating by the roadside, he felt dizzy, sat on the ground and eventually lost consciousness. After 10 minutes when he regained his consciousness, he found his mobile phone and bike were still there but four fingers of his left hand were missing. He suspected that somebody had chopped off his fingers for a black magic ritual,” reads the complaint.

Tarapara said he was rushed to Kiran Hospital for treatment. Amroli police registered a case, which was then handed over to Surat City Crime Branch by Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut.

During the probe, officials went through the CCTV footage from the area and found nothing suspicious. “After three fingers and a cleaver knife were found abandoned in a bag near the spot, we took fingerprints of his right hand and fingerprints on the cleaver knife and both matched. He tried misguiding with his statement,” said an official.

Crime Branch’s inspector S N Parmar said, “The condition of the victim is stable and when we questioned him, he failed to give satisfactory answers on the fingerprints matching, and recovery of three fingers and a cleaver knife. He admitted that he didn’t want to work in the diamond factory and had planned to chop off his four fingers so that he did not have to work in the diamond factory.”

He further added, “We are trying to dig out more information from him.”
