Two youths were allegedly beaten up when they tried to stop two other youths from assaulting a cow that had gone into labour in the middle of a busy main road in Bhatar area of the city Thursday night.
This is the second big seizure of drugs after three youths were caught with Rs 9.80 lakh worth banned substances on July 11. In March, two youth were arrested by Surat police with narcotic substances worth Rs. 1.95 lakh.
On Friday, 30-year-old Dubey was convicted by a mobile railway court and sentenced to 10-day simple imprisonment for selling articles on trains without licence, committing nuisance or using abusive or obscene language, unlawful entry among others.
According to police, constables of Khatodara police station had detained Ramgopal Bisamber Pandey, his younger brother Omprakash, and one Jay Prakash Pandey, all residents of Vinayak Nagar, on May 29 in connection with a theft case registered in February.
The amendment was made after BJP MLA from Surat East Arvind Rana agreed to Surat police commissioner’s request of allocation of funds from Rana’s fund for the CCTV cameras and wrote to Chief Minister Vijay Rupani regarding the same.
