The 17 people who died of the illness are all from three families at Baddal village in Rajouri district. Experts have not yet been able to identify the illness.Four people were killed in two car accidents, while three youths were feared drowned in the Narmada river in Bharuch district Friday.
In the first road accident that took place early on Friday, three people were killed when a car crashed into a tree as the driver allegedly lost control of the steering wheel near Shera village in Hansot taluka. While two people were killed on the spot, the third passenger died at a hospital.
The three deceased have been identified as Bhavnagar residents Mahavir Pradeep Agarwal (20), Mitesh Chavda (20) and Chetan Bhatti (26), and were on their way to Surat.
In the second road accident near Amod in Bharuch, a woman was killed and four others were injured when a car rammed a trailer truck as the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. The car passengers were Vapi residents who had visited Bhavnagar and were returning home via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Police said that as the driver allegedly dozed off, the car crashed into a trailer truck that was moving ahead. The deceased has been identified as Hansa Patel while the injured are Hina Patel, Shiv Pujari, Haresh Patel and Chirag Patel.
On Friday evening, three youths who had arrived at Shuklatirth in Bharuch to take a dip in the Narmada river, on the occasion of Kartik Purnima, were feared drowned after they were swept away by the river current. While rescue operations were undertaken to search for the youth, they had not been found until late evening on Friday, police said.
