With elections to municipal corporations in the state likely to be declared anytime now, city units of various political parties are girding their loins to prove their supremacy in city politics.
The BJP, NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) have already started the process of seeking applications from aspirants.
The city unit of the BJP, seeking to retain power in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), on Monday claimed to have received 2,000 applications from aspirants on the first day of a two-day drive seeking applications from aspirants. “The city BJP is likely to get many party workers interested in contesting the civic polls as party candidates. The party has sought applications from aspirants in two days. These applications will then be forwarded to the state unit of the BJP,” Union minister Murlidhar Mohol said on Sunday.
City NCP chief Sunil Tingre said, “Everyone who is interested in contesting the PMC polls as NCP candidates can collect the printed application form and submit it after filling it in the party office between December 8 and 18.”

City Congress chief Arvind Shinde said there are many aspirants in the party to contest the civic polls. “The aspirants have been urged to collect and submit the filled application form. They should do it between December 9 and 13,” he said.
Shiv Sena (UBT) city unit chief Sanjay More said the party has already started distributing application forms to aspirants. “The aspirants should submit their applications by December 11 along with a fee of Rs 10,000,” he said, adding the party has been getting good response from the aspirants for the PMC elections.
